Construction Update

2/1/26 Update

The big freeze cost us a few days of progress. But the construction crew was back at it on Thursday, making up for lost time. Ring 2 is very close to ready (just needs the rubber flooring and chair rail installed). Ring 1 and the reception area just had the ceiling painted, so that area is trailing behind a bit. The dayschool areas are pulling together. Next week will be a big week!

1/11/26 Update

We hit a minor snag (construction projects always seem to!). This shouldn’t impact our move date. But we’re having to do some remediation work on the foundation that was unanticipated. With a 50 year old building, it’s not surprising to find some things. Keep watch on the photos at the bottom of this page. Things are really starting to take shape!

1/1/26 Update

With the remodel being on schedule, we’re ready to announce our opening dates for the new Cottonwood Dr (in Richardson) facility!

Opening dates at 304 S Cottonwood Dr, Richardson:

  • Group Classes and Private Lessons – Monday, March 2nd
  • Great Dog Day School – Monday, March 9th

Until then, it’s business as usual at our current, Frisco location. Scroll to the bottom of this page for progress photos on the building remodeling project.

12/30/25 Update

Everything is still humming along. Timing is looking good for a March opening, with our Frisco location still going strong right up to the move date.  Our staff is excited to get settled into the new space. We are going to love being right across from Cottonwood Park. That will give us so many training opportunities for our group classes and our day school dogs.

Kenna, is working on clearing out extra retail stock. We want to have as little to move as possible. Plus, our new retail shop will carry a smaller array of products. There are some really good items on the clearance tables for a deep discount. Be sure to drop by and check it out!

Stephanie is handling selling extra assets. We have a fair amount of equipment we won’t be needing. She’s using Facebook Marketplace to advertise items. In about a month, she’ll be listing extra chairs and shelving (we have a lot of extras!). We’ll also be selling that beautiful big table that is the centerpiece of retail with all the chews. You can shoot her an email at stephanie@whatagreatdog.com if you’d like to be notified when she lists items.

This week, we finalized paint colors. We’re going with the same theme as our previous locations. WAGD’s very first home was a horse barn. So, we’re carrying that theme forward with the use of “pony walls” and rustic accents. We also finalized the plans for lighting (and switches… so many decisions!) and network ports.

12/13/25 Update

The remodeling project is going as planned. The building we’ve purchased was previously occupied by  4 different tenants. We’re doing the work to modify the interior to fit our needs. WAGD will occupy the entire building. We’ll have two training rings, a day school area and a retail shop with our front desk. The building is smaller than our current Frisco space, but we’re thrilled to own the building  (versus leasing) and are excited to make the changes needed to make it the perfect fit for WAGD!

We’re looking very much on track for classes and day school starting up there in Spring. We’ll publish dates and start enrolling for the classes there as we get farther along in the construction project. In the meantime, please keep visiting us in Frisco where we’ll be conducting classes and Great Dog Day School right up to the move date!  Scroll down to see the latest photos from the construction project.

Original Announcement

We’re thrilled to announce the next chapter for What a Great Dog!   We’ve purchased a building in Richardson, near beautiful Cottonwood Park (near Coit and Beltline), and we can’t wait to create an amazing new space for our clients and their pups! More details will be coming soon as our remodeling project progresses. We are anticipating the move to be Spring 2026. In the meantime, it’s business as usual in Frisco! We’ll remain at our current location while renovations are underway in Richardson. All classes, lessons, and sessions — as well as our retail store — will continue in Frisco until further notice.

While we’re incredibly excited about this move, we do have two bittersweet updates: our new facility will not include Barn Hunt or Flyball due to space constraints. We are working closely with our talented Barn Hunt instructors to help them offer opportunities independently of WAGD. We’ll share those details as they become available.

We promise to keep you well-informed and to provide plenty of notice when it’s time to move to our new, permanent home. Thank you for being such an important part of the WAGD community — your support means the world to us. We can’t wait to welcome you and your pups to our new home in Richardson! 🐾
